Complimentary Professional Learning and Development

We want every teacher and school to feel supported when choosing Mathematics and Statistics for Aotearoa New Zealand. To ensure this, every educator will be offered complimentary PLD. This will include:

  • Product training sessions (online) before the commencement of the 2025 school year to help with familiarisation of the curriculum and implementation of the programme.
  • During 2025, PLD sessions throughout year, both synchronous and asynchronous. This could be in person or online.
  • Throughout 2025, teacher support when a school needs it, which is critical for the digital subscription service and teacher and student onboarding early in the new year.

How to use the programme

Our 5-step teaching sequence, with all required resources provided, supports teachers and students to achieve success in every maths lesson, every day.

1

Plan

Use the programme planning resources, including lesson plans, to support your implementation of the Te Mātaiaho Mathematics and Statistics curriculum.

2

Introduce

Introduce the new topic, confirm the lesson intention and success criteria to the whole class and then lead the daily practice activity warm-up.

3

Assess and identify

Students complete the topic pre-test to quickly identify their current level of understanding. Results are delivered to the Teacher Dashboard, including suggested learning pathway for each student. Use this and your observations to identify student groups for the topic (below, on or above level).

4

Teach

Use the lesson plan to implement topic teaching, including whole class explicit and intentional teaching, daily practice, guided, independent and extended practice activities.

5

Assess the result

Students complete the topic post-test to measure individual growth and areas of need. Results are provided on the Teacher Dashboard to assist in planning next teaching steps.

Testimonials

What the teachers say

  • The digital teacher dashboard is incredible! It is our first port of call for all planning. Our own school scope and sequence is heavily influenced by the suggested term planners on the dashboard. The ability to project the workbook allows for us to explicitly model and teach through the guided practice and then work in small groups or with whole-class instruction on other areas of the student text for students to see. The mastery tasks are fabulous and is a terrific link between the skill, links to the real world and challenging problem-solving tasks. The digital interactives are also a great tool teachers build into their tuning in of lessons and explicit teaching to support student understanding.
    Senior Curriculum Leader
  • The student workbooks are an integral part of our maths programme. Students working in their own workbooks are being challenged by the content and it is complimented and supported by the additional digital resources teachers can assign to students.
    Director of Curriculum
  • The training and support we received from Oxford was amazing right from the get-go, which ensured all teachers felt confident with implementing the programme.
    Head Teacher
  • The student workbooks are a really important component of the programme. As the year progresses, students’ abilities improve, they get through the work faster and they take it upon themselves to become more responsible learners because they know what to do next. The classroom works like clockwork, and it is definitely easier for the teacher.
    Head Teacher
  • For developing a consistency of practice in all schools, Oxford University Press ticks all the boxes. They provide resources for evidence-based practice and sequenced lessons to support student learning and the ability to differentiate through the curriculum, which is fantastic. The student workbooks and teacher resources support all facets of teaching for individual teachers, teams and the whole school to provide a cohesive mathematics programme.
    Senior Educator
  • Built into our lessons, a pre-test is completed prior to the introduction of the new concept. The easy-to-implement, eight-question snapshot allows for quick insight to student knowledge and skill levels. The pre-test allows teachers to clearly identify potential misconceptions, direct lessons, and provide feedback for teachers as well as parents.
    Primary Educator
  • What we love about Oxford resources is that they bring meaning to what students are learning. All the examples throughout the resources relate to everyday, real-world experiences. I barely get asked anymore, ‘Miss, why are we learning this?’ We know when the child is engaged and when they can relate back to their everyday life, and that’s when they learn better and more effectively.
